Slow mindful yoga and somatic movement with breathwork and meditation to cultivate sensitivity and subtle awareness of the inner landscape. This nurturing workshop will have you floating into the weekend.

Our lives are so busy rushing from one thing to the next; with multi tasking and pressures of commitments and responsibilities it becomes increasingly difficult to find space for ‘the pause’. Yet its in this sweet stillness, in this place of deep listening and connection that we gain insight and create the possibility for letting go. In the pause we can drop the stress, be kind to ourselves and tune into what we really need. So give yourself permission to go slow, go kind and be present for the whole experience.

Immerse into nature with this gorgeous mindfulness meditation to connect with the elements all around us and deep within us. Beginner or experienced meditators all welcome. A lovely way to support a regular practice or start a new one is to join up with like minded people and meditate together. You are welcome to bring a flask of tea and stay to chat and chill after the guided meditation, or float off into the rest of your evening. If you need a cushion or blanket please bring them with you - it's better to stay warm and comfy!

Summer Solstice Celebration

Come and celebrate the summer solstice with like minded friends as we come together for some yummy outdoor yoga in the beautiful gardens of Gwills Cottage. We will delight in the evening summer warmth with a heart opening yoga practice and then set our intentions for the second half of the year with a gorgeous manifesting meditation. Traditionally, this potent time of year is marked with the practice of 108 sun salutations, but we will instead chant 108 rounds of Gayatri mantra - a prayer to the sun.

A time of transition and renewal, our celebration of the longest day of the year is a time when we can let go of whatever has happened so far this year and then move into the second part with clarity, gratitude and open arms! We will conclude our practice with a simple vegan supper to share on the lawn. If the weather isn’t great (this is England after all!) then we have the studio for practice and supper.

Summer Solstice is a celebration of the longest day of the year where the sun is at its highest point in the sky in the Northern hemisphere (in June anyway!). It has been celebrated since ancient times for many different reasons, but for me the meaning highlights the potent time of light. A time to not only celebrate the sun and all its glorious gifts, but also the light which resides in each and every one of us. By light I mean the energy of awakening, abundance and opportunity. It is the realisation that there is something greater than us and a state of expansion rather than ignorance.

If you would like to join us, please bring a cup, plate & cutlery. All equipment is provided at Gwills, but if you have your own you are welcome to bring it. Please wear layers to suit the changing outdoor temperature and any additional blankets etc if you want to be super comfy and warm.

Chanting the mahamrityunjaya mantra for healing

Join together for this pop up mantra chanting and meditation class at Gwills Yoga in Newquay.

Chanting this mantra with sincerity and faith creates a protective shield around you thereby guarding you against all directions. This mantra removes the fears and assists with overcoming difficulties, obstacles, challenges and accidents. Chanting in a group will increase the resonance and the healing tones can permeate your being with healing vibrations.

Listen to the beautiful story behind the mantra, then learn the lyrics along with the sanskrit translation. We will chant the mantra together 108 times to raise healing vibrations for ourselves, someone in need, our local community and then all beings. 108 is a sacred number symbolising many things. The individual numbers 1, 0, and 8 represent one thing, nothing, and everything (infinity). 108 represents the ultimate reality of the universe as being simultaneously one, emptiness, and infinite.

Bring an instrument if you fancy and wear layered comfy clothing that you are able to move in as we may do some very gentle stretching before we sit for meditation.

This is a charity event so all proceeds will go to Level Water charity who provide free swimming lessons to disabled children.

If you have practiced Yoga before then you will have undoubtedly performed the sun salutation flow of poses. But do you know the real meaning and benefits behind them?

In this fun and energising master class we will be discussing, learning and practicing the Classical Surya Namasakar or Hatha Sun Salutations. Practicing this sequence on a regular basis can positively impact your health on all levels - physically, mentally, energetically and spiritually. When we practice with understanding and faith, we can draw motivation from our devotion to our wellbeing and the bringer of light that sprinkles into our lives.

This master class will give you the motivation, understanding and confidence to go ahead and start your own daily home practice of yoga. We will cover the following:

  • What are the sun salutations and why do we practice them?

  • Physical, mental and energetic benefits of regular practice.

  • The 12 poses, their alignment and how to modify

  • The surya namaskar mantra, or sun mantras to add to the poses

  • Basics of Ujjiya breath, how to link the breath with movement and bring a mental focus into the flow

  • Importance of savasana (relaxation)

In this 6 week course you will learn how to use the power of mindfulness and meditation to enhance your body image, self esteem and appreciation for physical body on a much deeper level.

The course includes a 5 step approach to cultivating awareness of habitual behaviour and advice on how to turn it around. There will be tips and techniques on mindful eating, support from Kali and the group members and (of course) some juicy guided meditation practices to let go of what no longer serves you, embrace change and cultivate self love and gratitude so that you can blossom into a better version of your current self with a healthier attitude to lifestyle choices.

We won't be looking at fad diets, selling supplements or doing any crazy rituals. This course is a no nonsense approach to optimum well being by taking personal responsibility for your own health and happiness. It's not a weight loss club, rather a health promotion support group!

From darkness comes light and this time of year symbolises a turning point in our lives when we can let go of unsupportive attitudes and behaviours and embrace more positive healthful lifestyle choices.

The symbolism of dark represents ignorance and a more tamasic energy which can cause us to feel lethargic, stagnant and stuck in the mud. As we come to the shortest day of the year, we are given hope that more light is on the way as the sun starts to travel north. With new light brings new energy, hope, wisdom and raises our consciousness. It is with this energy that we can work to manifest our hopes and desires for a brighter future and a deeper connection to our true authenticity. When we are rooted within our deepest core values we can think and act from the heart in a way that is more nurturing offering compassion and kindness for ourselves and others.

Making the intention to transform ourselves creates a ripple effect on all of humanity and so coming together to create change is instrumental to improving the wellbeing of others. Sewing one little seed is all it takes 🌸

Breath work for Well-being Workshop

Join Kali Green Yogini for a workshop to explore the theory, benefits and practical applications of three yogic breathing exercises to enhance well being.

As well as the many health benefits, the use of proper breathing can help you to connect more deeply with your state of being, thus enhancing your yoga or meditation practice. The workshop will cover techniques that you can use on a daily basis, or separately as needed, to bring about more peace and presence, release tension, transform negative energy and balance the mind.

What you will learn in this workshop:

  • The physiology of breathing and how it effects the autonomic nervous system
  • Yogic philosophy on energy systems (prana/vital force, nadis/streams, bandhas/locks)
  • Understand how we can use breath work/pranayama as a tool to relax, uplift and balance
  • Theory, practice and benefits of Ujjiya / victorious breath applied to the full yogic breath
  • Theory, practice and benefits of uddiyana bandha kriya / energy sublimation
  • Theory, practice and benefits of Nadi Shodhana / alternate nostril breath
  • A short daily practice that you can implement right away with handouts for reference

*To practice uddiyana bandha you must have an empty stomach. A light lunch is recommended so you don’t feel uncomfortably full before class.

Silent Meditation Day

Silent Meditation Day

Join us for a day of quiet contemplation, yin yoga and enriching meditation to take your practice to a deeper level. From 10 am until 3:30 pm we will observe mouna (silence) apart from instruction from the teacher. This provides an opportunity for you to completely tune into self for deep exploration into your inner world as we let go of external distractions and rest deeply in the stillness of the group energy.

The day will begin with a short introduction to the four foundations of mindfulness and guidance on how to incorporate them into your practice. We will then move through some yin yoga poses to open the hips for sitting. The sessions will be 30 minutes long; some guided, some silent and some walking meditations to connect with nature. A healthy lunch of hearty soup and salad will be served, followed by a delicious dessert. The day will end with chai and an opportunity to share your experiences. *Those without prior experience of meditation would not be best suited to this workshop.

What to bring:

  • A meditation shawl or blanket (there are some blankets at the studio)
  • A meditation cushion or stool if you have one (some mats, blocks & bolsters are available)
  • Wet weather gear for the unpredictable English weather
  • Warm comfortable clothes – layers and warm socks are a good idea
  • A water bottle
  • A watch – preferably a quiet one!
  • If you bring a mobile phone, please keep it switched off and leave it in your car
